bio

A natural jazz flutist and singer from China who pours her soul into every note she plays and weaves her life into her music. Her jazz flows where East meets West, where tradition meets modernity and where honesty meets creativity.

Having devoted the first twenty years of her life to classical music, she felt an undeniable call to explore both herself and the world beyond. This longing led her to the Netherlands, where she embarked on a journey to study jazz. Over four transformative years, her perspective on improvisation deepened, expanding in unexpected ways. She found profound inspiration not only in the natural world but also in her rich Chinese heritage, which infused her music with a unique blend of tradition and innovation. Like nature itself—ever-changing and full of wonder—she continues to grow, embracing new experiences and opening herself to endless possibilities.

Chronicle project

(A music & spoken word project with 6 people- vocal, saxophone, flute, drum and bass.)

Before humans walked the earth, there were only the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. These five elements have represented the dynamics of the evolution of everything ever since. Based on this oriental belief, Qisheng Zheng now started a new interdisciplinary project, exploring the relationship between art and the meaning of these elements. Combining spoken word, contemporary jazz music and her paintings, she invites you to join her interactive journey through a world of stories. Stories that will dig into the root of not only art, but of life in general.

During the live concerts, this world is realized with beautiful poems in the form of spoken word and contemporary jazz with an intricate mix of composition and semi- electronic improvisation. Meanwhile, the original paintings and drawings of Qisheng will provide a window for you to look into this world.

Freedom of emotion is crucial for Qisheng, that’s why if anyone in the band or in the audience feels like they want to write or draw something, they will get the chance to. The collection of the result of this artistic experiment will be called:
The Chronicle.
